Dave Chappelle’s Hollywood Bowl attacker attacked roommate with same knife

Dave Chappelle American stand-up comedian Dave Chappelle may be in more danger than what happened at his May Hollywood Bowl appearance.

According to Deadline, the roommate of the attacker in that incident testified that Isaiah Lee used the same replica handgun with a hidden blade to stab him in the stomach. In the months before Chappell was attacked, Lee became increasingly erratic and allegedly wrote strange notes. Along with bragging about his marijuana use, Deadline reported.

“He was saying, ‘I’m smoking on your brother,’ bragging about how much money he was making—whatever he was doing—how much he was smoking. It didn’t make sense to me. He knew my brother. was. He passed away a few months ago. It was humiliating,” Washington testified.

On December 2, things escalated when Washington was attacked by Lee following the insult. “We started a scuffle, and I got stabbed,” Washington testified.

After the stabbing, Lee ran away from home. After Chappelle was taken into custody, Los Angeles police released pictures of the knife found on Lee. He pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges of battery, possession of a deadly weapon with intent to assault and interfering with a public event.

Lee, who was an audience member and was arrested on suspicion of assault after allegedly charging at the comedian on stage, said in an interview that he was offended by Chappelle’s jokes, Deadline reported.

He claimed he was there to have fun but Chappell made jokes that included controversial comments about the LGBTQ community, as well as jokes about homelessness. Lee said he has experienced homelessness himself.

“It’s a struggle, and I wanted Dave Chappelle to know that it’s not a joke,” he said, later adding that he doesn’t regret his actions, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
